UALR is eliminated from Sun Belt Tournament

UALR lost to S. Alabama Monday night, 54-44. The loss eliminated UALR from the conference tournament. John Fowler had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. UALR shot 26.2% from the field and 17% from behind the arc, making 4-23. The Trojans will have to await and see if they get a NIT or NCAA Tournament bid.

UALR wins thriller

UALR beat the Denver Pioneers 58-55 Sunday night at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The Trojans advanced to the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Tournament. John Fowler won the game with 44 seconds left with a 3-pointer to give the Trojans their first lead of the half, 58-55. The Pioneers then shot the ball with 6 seconds left, missed, and UALR got the rebound. The Pioneers sent the Trojans to the line with 6 seconds left, and missed the free-throw. Denver got the rebound and dribbled to mid-court and shot. The ball hit the rim and bounced off for a Trojans win. The Trojans will face the winner of Troy and So. Alabama in Hot Springs on Monday at 9:00 pm.

UALR 67, UL-Layfette 60

The Trojans finished the season on a high note with a win over Louisiana-Layfette Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center. With the win UALR got part of the Sun Belt title, along with Western Kentucky. UL-Layfette came as close as 2 points in the second half. John Fowler led the Trojans with 17 points. Also scoring in double digits were Trojan Mike Smith with 14, and ULL's Chris Gradnigo with 17. UALR will play the winner of Denver and New Orleans on Sunday, March 8 in Hot Springs.

UALR 80, N. Orleans 54

UALR took it's second biggest victory this season with a win over New Orleans. Every player who saw action scored a point for the Trojans, all 11 of them. Leading the Trojans was sophomore Matt Mouzy. Mouzy had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Also scoring in double digits for the Trojans was Brandon Patterson with 10. Kyndall Dykes lead the Privateers with 20 points and 3 rebounds. The Trojans will end the regular season against Louisiana-Layfette in Little Rock on Saturday.

UALR Coach dismisses Moore from UALR Basketball Team

Moore was suspended from the UALR Basketball Team Monday morning. Moore was the team's scoring leader this season. "I met with Steve this morning and have decided in the best interest of our basketball team to move forward without him. We appreciate Steve's contributions over the last three years and wish him the best going forward." says UALR Head Coach, Steve Shields, "With us being in a race for the overall conference championship, we have a big week ahead of us with games against New Orleans and Louisiana-Lafayette. I know how excited our guys are about the challenge in front of us." Shields also said he'd be leaning more on freshmen Curtis Jackson and Lionel Foster to fill in Moore's minutes. The two played more than usual in the West Division clincher in Denton, TX.

UALR 58, North Texas 54

UALR clinched the Sun Belt-West division with a 58-54 victory at North Texas Saturday night. John Fowler led the Trojans with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Also in double-digits were Shane Edwards with 12 and Wayne Burton with 10. UALR lead at half-time with a 26-24 lead over N. Texas. UALR shot 1-8 from behind the ark, while N. Texas shot 4-18. UALR's next game will be against New Orleans on Thursday.

UALR 65, Arkansas St. 59

Saturday night, UALR went into the Jack Stephens Center looking for a win, and they found one! Arkansas St. was holding on in the first half with a 20-21 score, and kept doing it until the Trojans gained their biggest lead of the night, 52-47. The Trojans held onto that lead until the end of the game. The Trojans out rebounded the Red Wolves, 44-34. The scoring leader for UALR was Matt Mouzy, with 12 points and 2 threes. The scoring leader for Arkansas St. is Donald Boone with 16 points and 3 threes.
